AI16z rebrands into ElizaOS as adoption grows

AI16z, a venture capital fund powered by AI agents, has officially rebranded to ElizaOS, marking a strategic shift in its growth and position in the industry.

Following the announcement, CryptoSlate’s data indicated that the project’s AI16z token is now trading at $0.61, showing a 6% drop in 24 hours and a 50% decline over the past week.

Why the rebrand?

ON Jan. 29, the project founder, Shaw Walter, explained that the decision was borne out of the need for a stronger identity as the adoption of its technology grows.

According to him:

“We are turning toward the next chapter of the project. As we continue to expand across multiple countries, develop our core technology, and foster an incredible community of builders, we are implementing a comprehensive rebranding initiative to ElizaOS.”

Walter noted that AI16z initially started as a lighthearted reference to VC firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) while raising $75,000 to build an autonomous investor. However, as adoption surged, the project scaled rapidly, increasing its assets under management (AUM) by 300x in three months.

This rebrand is set to establish a stronger, more unified identity that “opens exciting doors to collaboration with established players eager to leverage our groundbreaking tech.”

He added:

“Eliza will continue to be our mascot and the face of the project. The $ai16z ticker remains for now, with future changes to be voted on by the community when our DAO voting module launches. We will not create more tokens.”

The project operates on the Solana blockchain and integrates AI with community participation. It allows its holders to work alongside the AI agent Marc AIndreessen to propose and vote on investment strategies.

ElizaOS v2

Meanwhile, the rebrand also aligns with the upcoming launch of Eliza v2, a next-generation AI agent framework designed to push automation and intelligent planning to new heights. The updated framework integrates hierarchical task networks, allowing AI agents to execute multi-step processes, adapt to real-time changes, and streamline decision-making across industries.

This evolution supports Eliza Labs’ broader vision of developing Artificial General Intelligence with real-world applications. According to Walter, the team remains committed to building AI systems capable of proactive problem-solving, bridging gaps in automation and intelligent decision-making.
