Hyperliquid (HYPE) rallied by more than 20% on Wednesday after President Donald Trump disclosed that the Commodity Futures Trading Commission is exploring a regulatory pathway to allow the decentralized perpetual futures platform to operate in the United States.
Following the statement, HYPE jumped 22% to $71.61, nearing its all-time high of $76.87 as optimism over a potential US expansion joined a broader recovery across the cryptocurrency market.
Trump signals compliant pathway for Hyperliquid
Speaking during a White House meeting with technology, financial, and cryptocurrency executives, Trump noted that CFTC Chair Michael Selig is actively working to draft a legal framework for Hyperliquid’s domestic operations.
“I understand that Mike [Selig] is also working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a fully compliant and legal fashion, working very hard on that,” Trump said. “We would really like to see it.”
While the president’s comments do not signal official regulatory approval for Hyperliquid to launch in the US, they confirm that the CFTC is evaluating how the platform might operate in compliance with federal derivatives regulations.
Earlier this year, the agency authorized the first perpetual futures contracts on registered US exchanges, representing a significant step toward integrating the popular crypto derivatives product into the domestic market.
Perpetual futures are derivative contracts that enable traders to speculate on an asset’s price movements without an expiration date.
These instruments command a massive share of global cryptocurrency trading volumes, though regulatory barriers in the US have historically kept them concentrated on decentralized and offshore platforms.
A compliant pathway into the US could grant Hyperliquid access to one of the world’s largest financial markets while potentially drawing substantial institutional participation.
However, launching legally in the country would likely require the platform to meet strict requirements concerning platform registration, market surveillance, customer protection, anti-money laundering (AML) compliance, and derivatives trading standards.
Trump’s remarks were delivered during a wide-ranging White House gathering that brought together leaders from both the traditional financial sector and the digital asset industry.
Notable attendees included Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev, Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi, and Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman and Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeffrey Sprecher also participated, alongside representatives from oracle network Chainlink and venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.
Government and regulatory officials at the roundtable included SEC Chair Paul Atkins, CFTC Chair Michael Selig, and White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt.
Trump used the event to emphasize his administration’s goal of keeping the US at the forefront of technological innovation.
“We’re ensuring that America remains the undisputed leader not only in Bitcoin and crypto but also technologies like prediction markets, artificial intelligence and much more,” Trump said.
He also criticized the policies of the previous administration, arguing that they discouraged digital asset innovation within the United States.
HYPE approaches all-time high
HYPE climbed 22% to $71.61 following Trump’s comments, bringing the token within arm’s reach of its $76.87 record high.
The asset faces immediate overhead resistance between $73 and $76. A decisive breakout above this zone could clear the way for HYPE to mark a new lifetime high and potentially target its next major resistance level near $94.80.
Conversely, failing to break through the $73-to-$76 range could spark profit-taking following Wednesday’s rapid price increase.
The token’s rally was also supported by upward momentum across the broader digital asset market. Major cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana registered notable gains, as a market-wide short squeeze triggered nearly $3 billion in liquidations over a 24-hour period.
