Avalanche price eyes 90% rally as tokenization demand lifts AVAX

Key takeaways

  • AVAX rallied almost 50% over a week, hitting an eight-month peak of $10.82 on Sunday.
  • Optimism has been driven by institutional tokenization projects involving major names like ICE, New York Life Investment Management, Aave, and Janus Henderson.
  • The upcoming Helicon upgrade on September 22 is set to slash the minimum staking lockup from 14 days to just 48 hours.

The native token of the Avalanche network, AVAX, has experienced a nearly 50% surge over the past week, peaking at an eight-month high of $10.82 on Sunday. This upward momentum is largely fueled by renewed interest in institutional tokenization.

A major driver of this rally is the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent organization of the New York Stock Exchange. Reports indicate that ICE has spent roughly a year testing the Avalanche network to explore infrastructure options for 24/7 trading of tokenized exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and U.S. equities.

While ICE has not finalized a commercial partnership or officially selected Avalanche, Ava Labs President Charley Cooper confirmed that the company remains actively engaged with the blockchain network.

This exploration has bolstered market confidence that Avalanche will play a key role in transitioning traditional financial assets onto the blockchain.

New York Life plans tokenized fund on Avalanche

Adding to the institutional momentum, New York Life Investment Management announced its intention to debut its first tokenized fund on the Avalanche network, utilizing the Centrifuge platform.

This initiative will bring the firm’s U.S. High Yield Corporate Bond Strategy onchain, offering eligible investors direct exposure to high-yield corporate debt.

Meanwhile, other prominent financial institutions are expanding their footprint on the network. Aave is constructing an institutional lending market for real-world assets (RWAs) on Avalanche, and Paxos has integrated support for both AVAX and USDC.

Furthermore, asset management firm Janus Henderson has signed on as an Avalanche network validator, bolstering the blockchain’s institutional credibility.

Collectively, these milestones highlight Avalanche’s growing status as a preferred blockchain for tokenized funds, credit instruments, and other real-world assets.

In addition to institutional adoption, the network’s upcoming Helicon upgrade is acting as another bullish catalyst for AVAX.

Set to launch on September 22, the Helicon upgrade will dramatically reduce the minimum staking lockup period from 14 days to 48 hours. This adjustment is expected to enhance staking flexibility, allowing participants to lock up their assets for much shorter intervals.

Helicon will also introduce changes to validator requirements and reward structures. While lowering the time commitment could incentivize broader participation in network validation, the ultimate outcome depends on how validators adapt to the updated economic incentives.

The strategic timing of this upgrade, combined with rising institutional interest, has injected fresh momentum into the token’s recovery.

Falling wedge points to $19–$20 target

On the technical side, AVAX’s weekly chart indicates a potential long-term trend reversal after the price bounced off the lower boundary of a massive falling wedge pattern that has been forming since the token’s 2021 peak.

In technical analysis, falling wedges are typically interpreted as bullish reversal signals when the price rebounds from the lower support line and subsequently breaks above descending resistance.

This latest upward turn began in the $5.80 to $6.50 range, a historical support zone that has consistently drawn buyers. Following this bounce, AVAX reclaimed its 20-week Exponential Moving Average (EMA) near $7.97, reinforcing the likelihood of a broader recovery within the wedge structure.

Should this upward trajectory persist, the next key target for bulls is the $19 to $20 range. This area aligns with the wedge’s descending upper boundary and the 0.236 Fibonacci retracement level at $19.86.

A rally from current levels around $10.50 to this target zone would represent an impressive gain of roughly 85% to 90%.

However, before AVAX can target the $19 mark, it must first break through resistance at its 50-week EMA. A failure to clear this moving average could stall the rally or trigger a pullback to lower support levels.

The broader bullish outlook would be invalidated if AVAX breaks below the lower support line of the wedge and drops decisively under $5.80, which serves as the primary invalidation threshold for this recovery scenario.

For now, the technical outlook for AVAX remains positive as long as it stays above the 20-week EMA and holds the wedge’s lower support line.

Even so, reaching the projected $19 to $20 target hinges on the asset’s ability to overcome immediate resistance barriers and sustain its current institutional demand.
