Key takeaways
- Dogecoin is hovering around the $0.083 mark after finding support near its key moving averages.
- Trading activity for spot DOGE ETFs remains flat, indicating a lack of strong institutional conviction.
- The long-to-short ratio for DOGE has dropped to a one-month low of 0.66, signaling a bearish shift among traders.
- A slightly positive funding rate of 0.0010% offers a minor bullish hint, though downside risks still loom.
Dogecoin (DOGE) slipped below $0.083 on Tuesday, following a session where it managed to find support within a critical technical range.
While the popular meme coin continues to trade above both its 50-day and 100-day exponential moving averages (EMAs)—which could lay the groundwork for a rebound—several factors are holding buyers back. Weak institutional interest, a bearish tilt in long-to-short positioning, and tentative on-chain metrics suggest that market bulls are still hesitating.
DOGE currently sits at a critical juncture. Maintaining its position above these immediate moving averages could spark a fresh upward move, whereas a break below them risks opening the door to a sharper correction.
Dogecoin ETF demand remains subdued
Data from SoSoValue reveals that US-based spot Dogecoin ETFs have seen virtually no activity since last week.
This lack of inflows indicates that institutional players remain reluctant to build larger positions, even as DOGE climbed back from its recent low near $0.070.
If this stagnation persists, the cryptocurrency will lose a vital source of buying momentum. Furthermore, should ETF flows turn negative, the resulting selling pressure could disrupt Dogecoin’s attempts to establish a short-term price floor.
Meanwhile, the derivatives market presents a mixed outlook for investor sentiment. According to CoinGlass data, Dogecoin’s long-to-short ratio dropped to 0.84 on Tuesday, marking its lowest point in over a month.
Because a ratio below 1.0 indicates that short positions outnumber longs, this shift suggests a growing expectation among traders that prices will fall further.
Conversely, funding rates offer a slightly more hopeful signal. Dogecoin’s open interest-weighted funding rate crossed into positive territory on September 9, holding at 0.0010% on Tuesday.
A positive rate means that traders holding long positions are paying those with short positions, pointing to some demand for leveraged bullish bets. However, this rate remains minor and is not strong enough to completely counter the bearish sentiment implied by the long-to-short ratio.
On-chain analysis from CryptoQuant also highlights a slightly bearish tone. Although large whale transactions are visible in the Dogecoin futures market, sell-side pressure continues to lead. While spot market activity is picking up, multiple other metrics remain neutral.
Taken together, these indicators suggest that while major traders are active, they are not aggressively buying up DOGE. Consequently, the token remains highly vulnerable to further declines unless buying volume increases significantly.
DOGE holds above short-term moving averages
At present, Dogecoin is holding above its 50-day EMA of $0.081 and its 100-day EMA of $0.082, with this range serving as its immediate support floor.
Even so, the meme coin is still trading below its 200-day EMA of $0.092, which keeps its overall technical trend in neutral-to-bearish territory.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is hovering around 47, reflecting a balance of power between buyers and sellers. At the same time, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line is sitting just below the zero mark, confirming that upward momentum remains weak.
On the upside, Dogecoin faces its first major hurdle near $0.088. Overcoming this level could clear the path for buyers to test the 200-day EMA at $0.092. If the price breaks above that barrier, the next major resistance zone is expected near $0.102.
On the downside, failing to hold the support cluster between $0.081 and $0.082 would compromise the current recovery effort. Under that scenario, the next key support level lies at $0.070, and a daily close below this mark could spark a much deeper decline.
