PI holds below $0.0800 as stablecoin plans emerge, but downside risks persist

Key takeaways

  • Pi Network slipped under $0.080 on Wednesday, giving back a 2% bounce from the previous session.
  • The Pi Core Team is investigating stablecoin integration to enhance, rather than replace, PI’s core utility.
  • PI remains suppressed beneath its 50-day and 200-day EMAs, with sluggish momentum keeping the near-term bias tilted to the downside.

Pi Network (PI) fell below the $0.0800 threshold on Wednesday, following a minor recovery that had temporarily kept the token above last week’s low.

Trading near $0.07956, PI erased Tuesday’s 2% advance. At the same time, the project’s development team reaffirmed its plans to explore stablecoin integration as a means to spur broader activity across its ecosystem.

Despite the recent attempt at a recovery, PI continues to trade beneath major moving averages, leaving its price vulnerable to further declines if support at $0.0774 gives way.

Pi Core team explores stablecoin integration

The Pi Core Team is evaluating how stablecoins might unlock additional use cases across the network while preserving PI’s role as the primary native cryptocurrency.

The team is working alongside Open Standard, the issuer of OUSD, to explore potential stablecoin functionality and reward initiatives for network participants, known as Pioneers.

According to the project’s announcement, Open Standard is backed by major entities including Visa and Stripe. The proposed OUSD incentive programs aim to encourage wider engagement within the platform.

The integration remains in an exploratory phase, with developers emphasizing that any stablecoin features must complement PI’s existing utility.

PI rebounds but remains below key moving averages

Although PI’s recent price bounce offered temporary relief from selling pressure, the broader technical setup remains weak.

The token continues to trade beneath its 50-day exponential moving average at $0.0882 and its 200-day EMA at $0.1256, both of which represent significant overhead resistance to a sustained rally.

In the near term, PI is range-bound between support at $0.0774 and resistance near $0.0827, a barrier that aligns with the 23.6% Fibonacci retracement level.

Unless buyers manage to break above that resistance, the recent upside remains a temporary bounce within a larger bearish structure.

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits near 37, lingering below its neutral 50 level and reflecting persistent selling pressure.

Meanwhile, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains slightly negative and below its signal line, reinforcing a cautious outlook.

These momentum indicators indicate that the rebound has yet to spark a meaningful shift in trend. While holding above $0.0800 provides brief stabilization, buyers still face the hurdle of clearing nearby resistance.

On the downside, a sustained break below $0.0774 could trigger further selling toward the $0.0704 swing low.

On the upside, PI needs to clear $0.0827 before attempting to challenge the 50-day EMA at $0.0882. Reclaiming both barriers would strengthen the case for a more meaningful recovery.

A decisive move above $0.0882 could then open the door toward the 50% Fibonacci retracement level near $0.0990.

For now, whether PI can defend the $0.0774 floor and overcome $0.0827 resistance will determine if the bounce can evolve into a broader recovery or yield to renewed losses.
